GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The Grand Forks County Correctional Center Administrator is being recommended for termination.
County Commissioners say Bret Burkholder spent $50,000 less than the center received through the Back the Blue Grant totaling nearly $38,000. The grant aims to help recruit and retain law enforcement and correctional officers.
The commission says the money was not spent correctly under the grant’s language leading to a three to two vote to recommend Burkholder’s termination.
Only Sheriff Andrew Schneider can terminate employees in his jurisdiction due to a 2017 North Dakota Supreme Court decision.
