Leader of Nat’l Defense Industrial Association credits Sen. Cramer for keeping GFAFB open

Dick McConn interview with Scott Hennen

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Chairman Emeritus of the National Defense Industrial Association Dick McConn credits North Dakota Senator Kevin Cramer for keeping Grand Forks Air Force Base open.

“It was dead three years ago. It was about to be closed and I’m a retired Air Force officer. Through the work of Kevin Cramer and some help from John Hoeven, but especially work from Kevin Cramer, not only have we been able to keep Grand Forks Air Force Base open, it has really proliferated,” McConn, a Valley City native, explained.

McConn says that’s due to the Space Development Agency and a new Air Force mission at Grand Forks Air Force Base and future programs with drones and other special aircraft that are going there.

Cramer was recently named the Chair of the Senate Armed Services Airland Subcommittee. It’s in charge of Army and Air Force planning and operations policy and programs. McConn believes Cramer is one of the most highly-respected people in the Senate.

“The president has probably more confidence or better relationship with him than anybody else in Congress,” McConn said.

McConn says he’s been with Cramer when he got phone calls from President Donald Trump asking for advice.
