Feds cut $226M in Minnesota COVID-19 aid

WASHINGTON – The federal government is cutting $226 million earmarked for Minnesota’s COVID-19 and public health response programs.

Minnesota Health Commissioner Dr. Brooke Cunningham says the cuts were sudden and unexpected. She adds it was rare for a federal agency that usually gives notice of funding reductions so state agencies can adjust. Cunningham went on to say that it will take time to know the impact of the federal government’s action.

Contractors have been notified to stop work and the health department is considering staff reductions.
