(FARGO, ND) – Three Fargo firefighters and a Fargo Police Sergeant have received more national recognition for their actions during a critical incident on July 14.
Fargo Fire Captain Everett Patterson, along with firefighters Erich Christlieb and Justin Phillippi, along with Sergeant Zachary Robinson, received the Shepherd Award during the Active Shooter Integrated Response Conference in San Marcos, Texas.
The award recognizes first responders who ‘go above and beyond to protect their community through exceptional public service.’
“Our members of the Fargo Fire Department, along with Sgt. Robinson, demonstrated the greatest form of heroism in risking their own lives to save the lives of others. All four showed the highest level of dedication to serving their community and ensuring public safety. Their courageous actions and leadership set an outstanding example for all,” stated Fire Chief Steve Dirksen.
The critical incident resulted in the death in the line of duty of Fargo Police officer Jake Wallin and the wounding of two officers and a bystander. Robinson neutralized the threat, and firefighters Christlieb and Phillippi rendered aid as the gunfire continued.
Robinson was unable to attend the conference.
