(FARGO, ND) — Fargo Police officer Andrew Dotas has returned to work.
Dotas was one of four Fargo Police officers involved in a deadly ambush attack on July 14, 2023. What began as a routine traffic crash investigation turned into an unthinkable tragedy. A gunman ambushed Officers Dotas, Tyler Hawes, Zachary Robinson and Jake Wallin. Officer Wallin was killed in the line of duty. Officers Dotas and Hawes — along with a civilian — were critically injured and required months of intensive medical treatment and rehabilitation.
“Andrew’s path to return to duty has been nothing short of astonishing,” said Fargo Police Chief Dave Zibolski. “He has endured physical and emotional challenges that would test anyone, yet his resolve never wavered — not even one. His return is a testament to the strength and the dedication he brings to this profession. The courage and perseverance he has exhibited in reclaiming his role as a Fargo Police Officer reflects the kind of person he is — a leader, a fighter and a dedicated public servant committed to protecting others.”
Dotas’ return follows the return of Hawes, who resumed duty on February 4.
