BELCOURT, N.D. – A man is dead following Sunday’s officer-involved shooting.
Authorities with the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa say it happened on the reservation when officers called to Highway 5 just west of Belcourt finding the victim performing multiple U-turns in an apparent attempt to begin a chase. A confrontation ensured, and at least one of the officers opened fired, killing the man.
The FBI and Bureau of Indian Affairs are investigating.
