(MOORHEAD, MINN) – Clay County Commissioners are set to meet Tuesday and will consider a request to assist Cass County in housing some inmates.
Clay County Sheriff Mark Empting and Chief Deputy Chris Martin will be present to ask the Clay County Commission to approve a memorandum of understanding with Cass County to board inmates at the Clay County Correctional Center.
The sheriff’s office said Cass County is at capacity for boarding inmates in their facility, and Cass County Sheriff Jesse Jahner requested assistance from Clay County to house inmates. Jahner obtained a variance from the North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to bring North Dakota inmates into Minnesota for housing.
The sheriff’s office has the ability to take 10 inmates, with a possibility of more – if operations continue without disruption.
