WEST FARGO, N.D. – A new way to track vehicles parked in maintenance zones in West Fargo is discussed with the City Commission after complaints about tickets.
People aren’t able to park from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM in certain areas on certain days of the week for snow removal, street sweeping and hydrant flushing.
“We have our new plow operator software with our snowplow tracker where we can mark down cars that are out there. Once the guys get a little bit more used to the new software beginning in January or February when we get snowstorms we’ll have them mark cars that are in those maintenance zones and then see the street sweeping part of that in the Spring as well. We’ll track complaints and then we’ll compile all that data and bring it back next June,” West Fargo Public Works Director Matt Andvik said.
Proposed changes to the city’s parking policy discussed by the City Commission includes changing enforcement to November 1 to April 15 for snow removal only, changing street parking to Monday, Wednesday and Friday and avenue parking on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, parking on the even house number side of the street on even days and the odd house number side on odd days or adjusting the current maintenance zones to be spit into two days.
Andvik says nearly 1,500 tickets were given out between January 1 and October 24 in maintenance zones.
The city says in a release when the maintenance zones were made in the fall of 2020, the option caused the least disturbance to residents and would increase the efficiency for sweeping and plowing of streets.
