(FARGO, ND) – Fargo City Commissioners will receive an update on research being done in regard to making the mayor’s job a full-time position and adding two commissioners.
In a memo to commissioners, City Administration, the City Attorney and Human Resources say the transition of the mayor’s position to full-time is ‘a budgetary consideration’ and would not require changes to the city’s home rule charter.
The addition of two commissioners, however, would require approval by voters in a citywide election. A proposed timeline, which commissioners will discuss at their regular meeting, would put the issue to voters in the June 2026 election – and, if approved, a special election in November 2026 to fill the two additional positions.
