Bill would mandate MN Attorney General report on cases where state laws are challenged

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – A bill in the Minnesota House would mandate the state’s attorney general to submit a report yearly on legal proceedings where the constitutionality of state statutes have been challenged.

The report also would detail the amount of time staff spent on each case, the cost of bringing them to trial and litigating them.

Bill co-author Republican State Representative Jim Joy of Hawley says this would ensure accountability and gives legislators and the public insight into the state’s legal defense efforts and costs.

The legislation is in the House State Government Finance and Policy Committee.
