Bill would ban red flag laws in North Dakota

BISMARCK, N.D. – A North Dakota bill would ban red flag laws that stop people a judge rules a risk to themselves and others from having guns.

It’s been introduced by six state representatives including Republicans Jim Kasper of Fargo and Ben Koppelman of West Fargo.

The legislation would stop the state from issuing extreme risk protection provisions. This ban wouldn’t apply to involuntary psychiatric commitments or domestic violence protection orders.

The bill is being considered by the House Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
