Agriculture Sec. announces ND disaster assistance money, talks about sugar tariffs

WASHINGTON – North Dakota Farmers will receive help to rebuild infrastructure.

Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins visited Fargo Tuesday and announced more than $5 million will be dedicated to North Dakota farmers. The money will help rebuild electric infrastructure damaged by wildfires and severe storms.

Governor Kelly Armstrong says the Trump administration’s response to help farmers and ranchers boosts the state’s agriculture economy.

Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins also talked about sugar tariffs. Products imported to the U.S. with more than 65 percent sugar will face an additional tariff of 33 percent on top of those already provided. Rollins says this cements USDA’s commitment to President Donald Trump’s America First Trade Policy to support American grown sugar amid rising imports.
