Bill funding rural grocery stores goes to Gov. Armstrong

BISMARCK, N.D. – The North Dakota House passes a bill that would fund rural grocery stores.

It gives $1 million from the state’s General Fund to be used on grants for retailers. The money aims to preserve existing stores and reopen those that have closed in recent years.

Proponents say rural groceries have faced competition from corporate chains that have devastated their business.

The bill now goes to the governor’s desk.
