BISMARCK, N.D. – North Dakota Governor Kelly Armstrong says his office has not been made aware of concerns that Fargo Public Schools is continuing to defy state law – and federal guidelines.
Earlier this year, then-Congressman Armstrong said the district doesn’t get the choice to avoid following state law related to pronoun and bathroom preference among students.
In May 2023, Superintendent Dr. Rupak Gandhi gave direction to School Board members and officials to follow a federal rule over then-recently passed state law when it comes to new legislation impacting LGBTQ+ youth.
The federal rule under President Donald Trump has changed to align with state law.
Armstrong says his office will be looking into the situation.
Fargo Public Schools spokeswoman AnnMarie Campbell says the Fargo Public School District declines our request for comment on the situation.
