Minnesota Department of Health reports maltreatment cases at East Grand Forks senior living facility

(EAST GRAND FORKS, MINN) – The Minnesota Department of Health says a pair of investigations into an East Grand Forks nursing facility regarding maltreatment have been substantiated.

In the first case, Edgewood Senior Living and two registered nurses ‘neglected the resident when they failed to have a system in place to ensure availability of medication refills. The resident’s medications were not delivered immediately after new orders were received.’

The resident, according to the health department, was hospitalized after missing 10 days of prescribed medications. The facility and AP/RN1 and AP/RN2 were responsible for the maltreatment, the report said.

In the second case, Edgewood ‘failed to provide continuous monitoring for signs and symptoms of a diabetic condition, resulting in the resident being admitted to the hospital with diabetic ketoacidosis.’ The report goes on to say the facility ‘caused a rib fracture by improperly transferring the resident into a car.’

The health department’s report said the facility ‘failed to report 22 out of range blood sugar readings to the primary care provider (PCP) as ordered over a six week period.’

The latest two investigations are among five against Edgewood Senior Living in the last six months.

Flag Family has reached out to Edgewood Senior Living for comment on the investigations.
