(BISMARCK, ND) — A proposed constitutional initiative has been submitted to North Dakota Secretary of State Michael Howe.
Paul Sorum of Fargo is the chairman of the sponsoring committee.
The proposed initiative is related to transparency, ethics and public accountability for legislators. The measure calls for an addition to the state’s constitution calling for all records of communications between legislators relating to legislative business be considered public record. The initiative also calls for all members of legislative assembly to disclose potential conflicts of interests, no increase in salary or per diem, no employment-related benefits and that no former legislator can be a lobbyist for at least four years after leaving office.
The Secretary of State has until March 5 to review and provide a petition title.
