North Dakota bill would require the teaching of intelligent design in schools

BISMARCK, N.D. – North Dakota lawmakers are considering a bill that would require the concept of intelligent design be taught alongside the theory of evolution.

Proponents of intelligent design argue an intelligent entity created the universe and all life on earth. The bill would direct the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction to provide materials that teach that intelligent design is a viable scientific theory for all life forms.

Backers of the bill attribute their support to their Christian beliefs. Critics argue no evidence exists for intelligent design.
