MOORHEAD, Minn. – The City of Moorhead says the reason its plan for a Romkey Park pool replacement has universal locker rooms is because they have floor-to-ceiling walls and doors for changing rooms, showers and toilets.
“The City of Moorhead is committed to providing safe, welcoming, and accessible spaces for all members of our community. The universal locker rooms at Romkey Park Pool are designed to accommodate everyone, regardless of gender, age, or ability,” a city spokesperson said.
The city says families, daycare providers or caregivers will no longer need to split up based on gender to use the Romkey Park facilities. Staff adds there will be clear signage and guidelines in place to ensure proper use of the space and workers will have the flexibility to address any concerns as they arise.
The project was funded by $5 million from the city from reserves, bonding and private donations and $5 million from the federal government through the Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership grant.
Construction is set to continue until April 2026.
