MN Attorney General sues over Trump executive order ending birthright citizenship

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison and 20 other Attorneys General sue to block President Donald Trump’s executive order to end birthright citizenship.

Ellison argues the process is guaranteed under the 14th amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

He also cites the Supreme Court ruling twice birthright citizenship extends to everyone born in the U.S. including the children of immigrants regardless of their parents’ immigration status.

“It’s ridiculous. We’re the only country in the world that does this with birthright and it’s absolutely ridiculous. We think we have very good grounds,” Trump said while signing the executive order

According to World Population Review, several countries have birthright citizenship like Canada, Brazil, and Argentina.
