Supreme Court upholds TikTok ban

WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court is upholding the law that will ban TikTok Sunday if it’s not sold to an American company.

“Congress has determined that divestiture is necessary to address its well-supported national security concerns regarding TikTok’s data collection practices and relationship with a foreign adversary,” the court said.

President-Elect Donald Trump is reportedly considering an executive order that would save the popular app. President Joe Biden has said his administration will not enforce the ban before he leaves office.

TikTok users will see a message directing them to a website with information about the ban starting Sunday. Once the ban goes into effect, TikTok will not be able to be downloaded on the Apple App Store or Google Play. If users already have it on their phone, they can use the app and upload videos, but there will be no new app updates or security updates.

TikTok denied a Bloomberg report earlier this week that it was considering a sale to billionaire Elon Musk.
