Biden to remove state sponsor of terrorism designation for Cuba

WASHINGTON – The White House announces President Joe Biden has notified Congress he intends to remove Cuba as a state sponsor of terror.

The president says Cuba has not provided any support for international terrorism in the last six months and its government “has provided assurances that it will not support acts of international terrorism in the future.”

Nine days before leaving office in 2021, The Trump Administration redesignated Cuba a state sponsor of terror citing support for Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

Trump could once again name Cuba a state sponsor of terror once he takes office. The parents of his Secretary of State nominee, Florida Senator Marco Rubio, immigrated to the United States from Cuba.
