Wrigley determines November 2024 officer-involved fatal shooting ‘reasonable, justified and lawful’

FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota Attorney General Drew Wrigley says a November 2024 shooting of a Fargo man by police was ‘reasonable, justified and lawful.’

Fargo Police say at approximately 10:52 a.m. on November 13, officers were at a call for service in the 6100 block of 61st Avenue South. After calling police earlier in the day with suicidal thoughts, 63-year-old Peter Greco, exited the residence, armed with a gun and pointed it at officers. That’s when, Fargo Police Chief David Zibolski said, two officers shot Greco. He died as a result of the shooting.

Sergeant Lucas Mock and Officer Princeten Harris were subsequently placed on administrative leave while state law enforcement from the Bureau of Criminal Investigation investigated the use of force.

Police struck Greco a total of four times, Wrigley said. Two projectiles were removed from his body during the autopsy.

Chief Zibolski says Fargo Police had 23 interactions with Greco about suicide or suicide by cop. The first being in 2008.

Wrigley says Greco’s blood alcohol content was .279, nearly three-and-a-half times the limit to drive.

The Attorney General is concerned the handgun Greco had was a BB gun police thought was a .357 magnum.

“I can’t imagine why someone manufactures a piece of equipment like this. It’s inexplicable to me, but there it is. I’d even read the name to you if I knew who manufactured it. I can’t understand why,” Wrigley said.
