Disaster assistance coming for farmers, ranchers

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Agriculture disaster assistance is being included in the ag continuing resolution.

The resolution extends funding until March.

Senator John Hoeven, who is the Ranking Member of the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Committee, says more than $33 billion in agriculture disaster assistance is being included to help address producer losses resulting from natural disasters and challenging markets. It includes $10 billion to help mitigate economic losses in 2024, $21 billion to assist farmers and ranchers with losses due to natural disasters in 2023 and 2024 and an additional $2.5 billion for other ag disaster needs.

North Dakota stands to get $600 million in the disaster assistance for economic losses.

“It will follow their crop insurance, which is the right way to do it,” Hoeven said.

He said he realizes the funding doesn’t cover all of the losses sustained by farmers and ranchers.

“But it’s going to make a difference,” Hoeven said.
