Governor-Elect Armstrong defends appointing Democrat to cabinet position

(BISMARCK, ND) – Governor-Elect Kelly Armstrong is defending appointing a Democratic state legislator as his Chief Information Officer of the North Dakota Department of Information Technology.

Earlier this week, Armstrong named Grand Forks legislator Corey Mock as Chief Information Officer.

“It’s a purely apolitical position,” he told The Flag’s What’s On Your Mind. “IT, I think, is something coming moving forward.”

Armstrong said Mock understands the budget of the IT Department ‘inside and out,’ having been the floor carrier of legislation regarding the department’s budget in previous legislative sessions.

“IT is a real tough issue we’re trying to fix historically,” he said.
