(WASHINGTON, DC) – Congressman Kelly Armstrong says he’s skeptical that a farm bill can be finished up during the current session of Congress.
“Every single day that goes by I think the bigger, stronger likelihood is a one-year extension, which is really unfortunate,” he said while appearing on The Flag’s What’s On Your Mind Thursday morning.
Armstrong says the one-year extension would likely happen before the current session ends, saying “they can’t let it lapse.”
“We have to have those programs before we go into planting season,” he said. “But just by doing the extension is really detrimental, because we’re not increasing loan cap rates, reference price. And there’s a lot of structural things in the farm bill that need to be adjusted upwards – just for inflation alone.”
