Potential mass casualty event avoided after teen barred from entering Wisconsin Elementary School

KENOSHA, WI — Police in Wisconsin arrested a 13-year-old who they say tried to bring a rifle into a elementary school.

The incident happened yesterday morning at Roosevelt Elementary School in Kenosha. Officers say the teen tried to get in through several doors, but they were all locked. When he went in the front door, police say school staffers stopped the teen, and asked him what he was doing. Initially the teen was reported to have some ‘suspicious bags,’ but Kenosha Police later said he had a rifle. The teen was arrested, and no one was hurt.

Superintendent Jeffrey Weiss says school staffers were heroic. Police say the situation could have ended with a tragedy.
