Minnesota Attorney General condemns racist messages telling black people to report to nearest plantation

ST PAUL, MN — Minnesota’s Attorney General is condemning a series of racist text messages received by some Black residents following this week’s election.

Attorney General Keith Ellison called the messages disturbing and threatening and said they have “no place in our society.” Recipients say the messages told them they had been assigned to pick cotton and would be picked up and transported to the nearest plantation. Similar messages were reported in other states.

The U.S. Department of Justice and the FBI are investigating.
