DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — The wife of a Detroit Lakes missionary killed in Angola, Africa is in custody.

According to authorities, Jackie Shroyer, the wife of Missionary Beau Shroyer, was arrested in connection to the violent death. Many details are still unknown. Pastor Troy Easton with the Lakes Area Vineyard Church in Detroit Lakes says words cannot express the disbelief and sorrow about the news.

The children are safe according to Pastor Easton.

The full statement from the Lakes Area Vineyard Church can be found below.

Lakes Area Vineyard Family,
I love you very much and I am heartbroken and in shock that I need to send this
type of update to you today. Wherever you are and whatever you’re doing, I’m
going to ask you to sit down, take a deep breath and remember that God is our
ever present help in times of trouble.

As you all know, our community has been deeply saddened by the death of our
dear brother and friend Beau Shroyer, who was killed in a violent, criminal attack
in Angola, Africa on Friday, October 25. Today, our grief and sadness has
deepened immeasurably as we’ve learned that his wife, Jackie Shroyer, has been
arrested in connection with his death.

I’m so sorry and simply do not have words to express my disbelief and sorrow
about this news. What I can tell you is that the Shroyer children are well cared for
and we will work alongside SIM USA and SIM Angola to ensure that continues to
be the case. I also want you to know that we will do what we can to come
alongside and care for you too.

This is unimaginable, and yet it is very real. As a community we must cry out to
the Lord for his grace, mercy and comforting presence for the Shroyer children
and family. We must honor God and love each other by how we communicate
about this, and we must continue to stand together, asking God to do in and
through all of this what only He can.

News of this nature will undoubtedly stir up questions and media attention. We
are preparing to engage as needed and will simply point back to this statement
for all inquiries for information. Please be advised that our Sunday morning
gatherings will honor the needs of our community at this time and we will be
asking the media to respect the community’s privacy.

With love and deep sadness,
Troy M. Easton
Lead Pastor
