Moorhead Area Public School Superintendent breaks down the capital projects levy

Dr. Brandon Lunak’s interview with Ty Schonert on WDAY Radio Midday

MOORHEAD, Minn. – Moorhead Area Public Schools Superintendent Doctor Brandon Lunak describes why he feels it’s important to pass the capital projects levy.

“The general fund continues to pick up the slack for the lack of capital in the district right now in terms of what our operating capital generates. This would take not only a lot of pressure off our general fund, but it would allow for us to continue to make these investments in our students and in our district,” Lunak said.

The levy would go toward maintenance projects for 11 buildings including roofing, HVAC and security improvements, replacing outdated devices and software and aging buses and vans.

If passed, the levy would be in place for 10 years and raise taxes $4,315,000 next year. An estimated $43,150,000 for projects would be funded over that time. Taxes on a home worth $100,000 would go up $50 per year.
