Pembina County man attacks man, police officer

(DRAYTON, ND) – A Pembina County man is facing a pair of felonies after assaulting a person in the City of Drayton, along with a police officer.

According to court documents, on October 21, police were called to the 300 block of South 3rd Street for a disturbance just after 3 a.m. When Police Chief Alan Mattice arrived on scene, he found the suspect, Ruben Tally, running towards the home on the property, screaming and yelling. He then entered a vehicle. When Mattice was able to talk to him, he saw that he was bleeding from a fresh wound to his nose. Tally said that the victim was hurt and needed help. The victim said that Tally had punched him several times in the face.

While being detained, Tally swung at Mattice and hit him in the jaw, which led the officer to use his Taser on the suspect.

Mattice transported Tally to Unity Hospital in Grafton for medical clearance, where he ran 20 feet before Mattice apprehended him. Medical staff cleared the suspect, who was transported to the Pembina County Jail in Cavalier.

Tally is being held on a $10,000 cash or surety cash bond.
