Former Deputy Attorney General dies from complications of ethanol abuse

(SOUTH BEND, IN) – A former North Dakota Deputy Attorney General died of complications of chronic ethanol abuse. The St. Joseph County Coroner’s Office says 48-year-old Troy Seibel died on September 3 just before 6 a.m. at a home in the 200 block of East Indiana Avenue of South Bend, Ind.

At the time of his death, current Attorney General Drew Wrigley said he had not spoken to Seibel since the late Deputy Attorney General left the office in 2022. Seibel was appointed the state’s Labor Commissioner in 2014 and, in 2016, the late Attorney General, Wayne Stenehjem, appointed him Deputy Attorney General.

KFGO Radio first reported on the autopsy results, and WDAY Radio has independently confirmed them with the St. Joseph’s County Coroner’s Office. We are working to learn more about the details surrounding Seibel’s death. He served under the late Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem.
