Father of “battered child” pleads guilty to child abuse charges

FARGO, ND — The father of a child who died to alleged child abuse is pleading guilty.

U.S. Attorney Mac Schneider says Collin Ray Delorme pleaded guilty to three counts of child abuse in Indian country. Two charges are related to the one-year-old child’s death.

The 1-year-old child was reported not breathing by Delorme’s co-conspirator, Kenzie Rose Baker, and pronounced dead at a Devil’s Lake hospital. Autopsy results found the child was “battered”, with multiple internal and external injuries, some leading to infection and sepsis according to the report.

“Today’s guilty plea is a step towards accountability for the heartrending death of a young child,” Schneider said. “The way this toddler was treated was horrific and shameful. Whether it is at multi-disciplinary team meetings throughout the District of North Dakota or by holding child abusers accountable in federal court, our career prosecutors and partners in law enforcement are committed to protecting kids and preventing tragic cases like this one.”

The third charge is for alleged abuse of a second child by hitting his arms and throwing the child onto a bed. Both Delorme and Baker are in custody until sentencing.
