Out of my 30 years forecasting weather, I don’t think I’ve ever experienced anything like this! We call it the HECTOR effect. What is it and is it real? After working with Daryl Ritchison from NDAWN it’s painfully obvious that Hector continuously measures the temperature at the airport a constant 2 to 4 degrees warmer than EVERY surrounding weather station. Daryl has done extensive research into this and is tirelessly trying to get the NWS (National Weather Service) to fix the issue. However, it’s a slow process and quite possible nothing gets done. Notice on the attached screenshots the temp this morning at Hector at 8am is 57 while the NDAWN site is recording 54 at the EXACT SAME TIME. It’s almost always (90%) 2 to 4 degrees warmer at Hector. Now, to the general public, they probably don’t give a hoot. However, this may impact the general public more than you may realize.
Now, with that being said, Hector is not the ONLY NWS reporting site that records temps consistently warmer than other surrounding ASOS stations. How big of a problem is this? It’s too early to tell but let’s jump down the rabbit hole for a bit. Let’s assume that there are NUMEROUS official weather stations across the US reporting temperatures consistently warmer than surrounding sites. This would advance the “global warming” agenda thus pushing more $$ into the global warming issue. Is that what’s REALLY going on? It’s hard to say. I’d like to think that’s NOT the case but the more information that is being revealed about faulty NWS reporting stations, it does make you wonder. THIS will make you raise an eyebrow:
