Bismarck woman earns new trial after ND Supreme Court ruling overturns murder conviction

BISMARCK, ND — A Bismarck woman will get a new trial in September after the state Supreme Court overturned her murder conviction.

A Burleigh County jury convicted Rolanda Doyle of murder and child abuse last November, and Judge David Reich sentenced her to life in prison for the death of her five-year-old nephew who was in her care.  The state’s high court overturned her conviction in May, saying the lower court abused its discretion regarding expert testimony.

Doyle argues the child died of natural causes.
