(BISMARCK, ND) — North Dakota Governor Kelly Armstrong is calling a bill he signed Friday ‘one of the most impactful bills’ signed during the session.
The bill is House Bill 1160, which requires phone-free policies in North Dakota’s K-12 schools. The bill was signed Friday morning at Centennial Elementary School in Bismarck, and was attended by the Governor, First Lady Kjersti Armstrong and other leaders both in the educational system and state government.
“From the start of the day, until dismissal, this bill requires that all personal electronic communication devices be securely stowed and inaccessible to students,” Armstrong said. “This is going to be a gamechanger for our students, giving students the freedom to focus on learning, and interact with teachers and friends, without the constant tug of their cell phone and the addictive algorithms of social media.”
House Bill 1160 passed both the House and Senate with strong support. The law goes into effect August 1.
