WEST FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – The West Fargo School Board approved boundary adjustments for some elementary schools.
The West Fargo School Board took action Monday night. Making their final decision on boundary adjustments for some elementary schools. Including Aurora, Deer Creek, Legacy, and Horace. Some families weren’t pleased with the board’s decision.
“It was almost disregarded the feedback that was given by families,” said West Fargo Public Schools parent, Josh Wells. “I guess I’m really not surprised,” said West Fargo Public Schools parent, Dori Dahl.
In a memo put out by West Fargo Public Schools, it states: To address the current and ongoing crowding at Horace Elementary School, the School Board will need to adjust boundaries within the Hawks feeder system.
“They readjusted the zones every other year. That’s hard for kids,” said Wells.
The adjusted proposal states 291 students will be impacted by these adjustments, down from the original proposal of 363.
“That adjustment to our development is approximately 7 students. So they didn’t exactly go out of there way to make it easier on us,” said Dahl.
The district emphasized that this plan addresses current enrollment needs, but does not offer a full five year solution for Horace Elementary. According to the district, as a result, additional adjustments will be necessary within two years.
“We’ve already got told we can’t go to the Sheyenne High School, we’ve got told we can’t go to the Liberty Middle School, and now we’re getting our elementary school taken away. I just don’t foresee anything positive coming out of it in the next couple years,” said Dahl.
