BISMARCK, N.D. – Bismarck State College Interim President and former North Dakota Lieutenant Governor Brent Sanford has been named the Interim Chancellor of the North Dakota University System.
The State Board of Higher Education says Sanford will begin his new role April 30. Mark Hagerott announced his retirement as chancellor last week.
“I appreciate the opportunity to serve in a leadership role that includes all of the state’s higher education campuses,” said Sanford. “I am ready for this challenge.”
Sanford adds he’s “confident that the North Dakota University System can become the number one workforce solution for North Dakota and our region.”
“I welcome Brent for stepping up not once, but twice in a few short months to serve where he was needed in the system,” said State Board of Higher Education Chair Tim Mihalick who praised Sanford’s leadership experience. “Our highest priority is our students and building collaborative partnerships with the state’s workforce to meet their needs.”
Mihalick says Sanford “will lead systemwide collaboration among our campuses…to ensure that connection remains strong between the system and community needs.”
Dr. Dan Leingang has been named as the Interim President of Bismarck State College.
