Drought expanding or contracting?

Very dry conditions continue across much of the state with the western part of the state in severe/extreme drought. However, there is some relief on the horizon.  Here is a look at precip expectations over the next 10 days:

Now keep in mind, models tend to over forecast precip amounts BUT the trend is looking wetter.   Now lets take a look at the LRC and its predictions for the rest of April (top map) and into early May (bottom map)

april rain may rain

Notice the “spike” in precip from the 24th through the 27th of April with widespread rain expected and then another big bump in precip for the first few days in May.  Many areas will get a good soaking from these 2 storms and should really help with drought condition!   This is GREAT news when it comes to the drought conditions as many areas will get some much needed rainfall.   However, much of May looks a little dry with a small bump in precip chances around mid month and again around the 22nd.   Do you have any questions about the LRC?  Let me know at weather@flagfamily.com
