(New York, NY)  --  Dozens of protesters could be facing charges after the NYPD cleared the protest camps from the grounds of Columbia University.

The university on Tuesday night asked the police to clear out the camp for the safety of all students. Police say most of those arrested were not students and were what officers called professional protesters.

Police are also responding to campus unrest in Los Angeles. Violence has broken out between pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli protesters at UCLA. California Governor Gavin Newsom said his office has been in contact with law enforcement leadership about the situation.
