Ten years later, investigators still seeking answers to Bearson disappearance, death

(MOORHEAD) – It was ten years ago today that 18-year-old Tom Bearson went missing.

In the early morning hours of September 20, 2014, Bearson was last seen alive with friends and fellow students at an NDSU off-campus residence. Later that morning, law enforcement was contacted when he did not show up for a ride to visit family in Alexandria, Minn. Three days later, Bearson’s remains were discovered.

Investigators with the Moorhead Police Department, with assistance from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, have continued to follow up on every tip.

“We remain open to all possible scenarios regarding Tom’s death, and continue to pursue every investigative avenue,” Moorhead Police Captain Deric Swenson said. Recent advancements in DNA technology have helped the department review evidence previously collected for the purpose of utilizing the technology.

Moorhead Police say they believe there is information regarding Tom’s time at NDSU and the circumstances surrounding his death “which has not yet been shared.”
