Fargo Police Chief Zibolski apologizes for department's handling of media notification of downtown assault

(Fargo, ND) -- Fargo Police Chief Zibolski apologizes for department's handling of media notification of downtown assault

Fargo Police Chief Dave Zibolski is apologizing for how the department's communication's team handled a case involving a group assaulting a man downtown.

"We have a system in place to notify our communications team so that they can push stuff out. Best thing I tell you is looking back, it was a busy shift for them and that notification got missed, so that should have went out, apologize for that," said Zibolski while appearing on The Flag's "What's on Your Mind".

The assault happened early Saturday morning April 6th in the 600 block of NP Avenue North.

A citizen approached a group of people assaulting another person and told the group to stop.

The group then turned on the citizen and assaulted him.

The man was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Chief Zibolski said 4 of 6 suspects in the case have been arrested, and that investigators are looking for the two other suspects.

A department spokesperson said on May 1st that a press release about the incident was not sent out.

She says information about the case "was shared with media outlets upon their requests."
